Problems with iMovie Audio Sync?

  • Hey there, I record gameplay with my EyeTV3 on my Mac. When I export clips out of EyeTV to my desktop to view them, the audio is fine and everything is synced. When I import the clips into iMovie, the audio slowly goes out of sync during the video and at the very end, it's almost 5 seconds off sync. In order to get around this, I've been detaching the audio and dragging it to where it's almost synced, but that editing process is a huge pain since I also have to edit my own commentary. Is there some setting within iMovie that I can change so that the audio will be synced correctly? Surely that's not how iMovie is, I bet a lot of people don't even know how to detach the audio and drag it like I've been doing. Please let me know how to fix this! Thanks!

Not sure what the exact cause is, but I would suggest that you transcode the file into a .MOV file using the Apple Intermediate Codec for video compression. If you have iMovie '11, you can do this with the already imported clip using File->Optimize Video->Full Original Size. (Select the clip in the clip browser before that.) With older iMovie versions, use MPEG Streamclip (freeware) to transcode the file before you import it. http://www.squared5.com Drag the file onto the MPEG Streamclip application icon to launch it, then choose File->Export to QuickTime, and, in the export options window, choose 'Apple Intermediate Codec' for compression, the 'unscaled' frame size, Quality 100%, then click on Make Movie to start the conversion.
