How can I reuse my browser after a crash without having to reboot my OS?
-
Anytime my browser crashes I have to reboot my computer to begin surfing again. This happens on both my Firefox (v2.0.0.17 and any other version I've used in the past) and IE7 (v7.0.5730.11). I do not lose my internet connection. I know this because I've tested it by bringing up another program like live messenger or an online game and they connect up to the internet with no problems. I'm just not able to use a browser to access the internet at all unless I do a reboot, which can get very annoying after a while. Closing down the browser and restarting it does not solve the problem, nor does switching browsers. (for instance Firefox crashes, I close it and try and open a new page with IE - no good). This seems to be computer specific because if we have a browser crash on any of our other computers in the house, all we have to do is restart the browser again with no problem. OS reboot not necessary. I have scanned for virus/spyware/etc and my computer is clean and I have all my browser and Microsoft updates up to date. I use PC-Cillin Internet security 2007 and have all of my updates to date on that as well. Has anyone had this problem before? Do you know what I can do to fix it so that I don't have to reboot the entire computer for a browser crash?

Answer:
The question you need to ask is why is your browser crashing? Are you sure you typed the version of Firefox in correctly as v3 is the current version? I would look at what else is running on the PC. Look at removing anything that you really don't need to be running at startup. Sometimes Internet Security is the cause of these sorts of problems. You might want to try removing PCCillin and installing AVAST or AVG instead to see if that helps. Look at these articles to find out what is running on your PC.
