How can I be sure that the microsoft updates are real and safe?

How can i go to www.microsoft.com to download updates manually for windows vista.?

  • When i go to windows update website it says use your windows update application located in start menu for updating your application in windows vista.I want to store store windows updates locally for subsequent installations in windows vista to update whenever i format my computer because it is not quite possible to download updates every time because of size of update it matters.
