What are GoToMeeting and GoToMeeting coupon?

Which web conferencing services (e.g., GoToMeeting) do you recommend?

  • I am seeking advice on suitable web conferencing software for online interactive training seminars. Our application is to provide training online to certified court interpreters. These are the people who provide interpreting services in court and in other legal settings (e.g., attorney-client conferences) to people who have limited English proficiency. A typical class will have six to 25 online attendees. The instructor and the "helper" (who lurks and is available to provide technical assistance for the class -- especially if something goes wrong during the presentation) value a text chat feature; video and audio from the teacher and the students; an alerting feature so a student can indicate he would like to say something; and instructor control of audio and video from himself and each student. And we like the feature where people can call in to the conference on normal telephone -- this is great for people with slow or inconsistent Internet bandwidth, so their voices aren't jumpy or distorted or paused. We have conducted one of these online training seminars so far -- a session of about 2.25 hours using the GoToMeeting service. We were very pleased with the outcome, but there are a few things that we were not able to do. The total attendee count was limited to 16 (including the instructor); we wish we could have up to 25 attendees. We were only able to display a total of six video feeds at a time; we wish we could display video from all of the students, even if the images are small and of limited resolution. (To avoid taking up the whole screen the images would have to be small if 24 images were to be presented, and that's okay!) We used the text chat feature for students to indicate that they'd like to be recognized (with their audio and video enabled by the instructor) to comment, ask a question, or answer a question. This worked reasonably well... but we know some other services (including services offered by Citrix, the operator of GoToMeeting) have a "raise hand" feature for students so they can indicate they want to be recognized. The monthly cost of GoToMeeting -- around $50/month -- is reasonable for us. Of course, we wouldn't mind paying less, and we hope we don't need to pay more. What other services should we consider, and why? Thank you very much!
