Final Cut Pro: Can you overlay pictures & video? How dissolve audio?

Hi. I'm new to Final Cut Pro and editing in general, so I'm looking for tips explained in a way I can understand ;p I am working on a video and am wondering if I can superimpose a photograph over a video clip and how I can do this. I tried to drag it and then 'superimpose' but it said the function wouldn't work. Also, how do you then adjust the image so it's more or less visible over the video? Also, I want my audio to dissolve in and out in between songs (right now, there are different tracks cut together but the transitions aren't very smooth). What do I have to put at the beginning and end of the songs, what options to I have, and how does that work? Thanks so much for your time!
