Why am I having this problem with java or Windows Installer?

Cannot uninstall programs on computer. problem with windows installer?

  • I have been having this problem for quite some time. When I try to reinstall or remove programs on my computer (no matter what the program!) it comes up with a box saying preparing to remove and then pops up with the error message "The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance" Would someone be able to give me a step by step guide to repairing this problem??? I'm pretty good with IT and generally can follow instructions anyway.

  • Answer:

Unregister and re-register the Windows Installer 1. Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER, and then click OK. Even if you do this correctly, it may look like nothing occurs. 2. Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then click OK. Even if you do this correctly, it may look like nothing occurs, or you may briefly see an hourglass. After you run this command, the operation is complete. 3. Try your Windows Installer-based application again.
