How can i fix my computer?

How can I Fix my Computer? Experts Please.?

  • my computer has been virused the sht out of. I have Windows XP and ive read many MANY accounts of others already who have similar symptoms right off the bat. First: Background wallpaper is the only image when you log in. No desktop Icons, and no taskbar at the bottom.I have only one profile for windows, no guest or family, so i cant go out an try a different one. I am the admin. so thats first. Second, ive continued to take steps in running scans with multiple programs(Norton, Malewarebytes Anti-Maleware, SpyBot Search and Destroy), no maliciouis anything comes up in ANY of them. Norton DID detect and quarantine a couple things, and the fact that they are quarantined and not REMOVED still upsets me and seems to be a clue to the fact that my stuff is still screwed. Im currently online through Ctrl-Alt-Dlt (task manager) Also, this computer is a gift, so i DO NOT have the original disc for re-installation or anything like that. ANY help would be very very welcome. Ive checked the tab for TURN OFF system restore or recovery or whatever, because I forget where or why i read that but it seemed important to try and not store virus's ive taken care of. Not sure whether that was good or not. Now i had restore points saved when the computer was fine, but if i go to system restore none of them are available. Listed quarantined viruses below: Trojan Horse, 2 of Suspicious.Mystic, BackdoorTidServ!gen5, 2 of downloaders, Trojan.FakeAV!gen27 Yes i know seems to be quite a bit doesnt it. Well my younger sibling loves to hop on an download crap from pirate bay an sell stuff on craigs list so i assume it has something to do with that, because i use my computer mostly for writing and checking emails. Again, any help would be nice, though i'd assume computer experts probably dont go on websites offering help too often. Now mainly what i was wondering was if there was a way i could use the computer ITSELF to scan and remove anything, like in a DOS window or on start up. Ive booted in safe mode AND safe mode with networking, but the zero icons/taskbar problem is still there. I went on as admin once or twice but as i said before, running my programs and scanning the computer doesnt really do anything. Help would be very very appreciated.

oh i had the same problem on one of my customers computer once, what i think i did was go on task manager and look and see if you can find the virus running in any process, next try msconfig and see if the virus is loading at boot up, next try kaspersky a good antivirus and see if it can delete a virus, next i would also go on safe mode depending on the type of computer you would have to press a different button, just go on good and search what key to press to enter safemode on the specific brand computer you have, once you enter safe mode i would create another admin account, reboot and load into that new account, see if you can load properly into windows, if you see the taskbar etc, if that works id go to control panel and delete the other account, and if you have certain important file just go to the c drive and go to the other account and transfer those file to the new account..

Your computer's screwed. It's kind of like what used to happen when you'd go to goggle.com. It messes your whole computer up, and pretty much crashes it.

Do a Google search on each of the listed viruses. There is detailed info on how to properly remove them. ÕÕ ¿ ~

You need to stay away from certain kinds of web sites! The kind of web sites that your mom would disapprove of if she knew. But the very web sites that are the most fun (to some people) are also the most dangerous. Reinstall Windows XP from scratch, and then keep away from web sites that you've gone to in the past, because that is the ONLY place where these viruses can come from, after all. Good luck with that.

From the Run Dialog in Task Manager, try running explorer.exe. If you get nothing, then yeah, your installation is pooched, and you need to reinstall (we'll get back to that in a second). Second, run Malwarebytes in safe mode, yet? I would also recommend running a registry cleaner, with CCleaner being my recommendation. Or, if you have Norton 360, run the registry scan. However, reinstallation is going to be your best option. Is your laptop a name brand one from the last few years? If so, it should have a built in recovery feature from the manufacturer. Should be accessible from startup, often from one of the function keys, normally F10 or F11. In the case of Dells running Vista, it would be under "Repair my Computer", accessed via F8 while the computer is booting.

if, your computer runs ok besides the icons. then i would just go to all programs, right click the program you want create new icons for desktop. also run other system tools like defrag and check disk. and get some online scans, run your other scans and a/v in safemode. task bar and icons could mean some software you recently downloaded might be taking it away, videos graphics come to mind.

The registry is like, a big companies entire list of what they own and how these things work, diggers dig, brokers buy and sell, you get the idea. Now lets get back on the subject of computers. Computers during the normal day will make trillions and trillions of operations, tiny little calculations, nonstop, the more advanced the computers become as they evolve the more of these calculations they can do per say, second. Since computers do these operations day after day, an error or a few hundred are bound to accure to just about every person siting in from of the computer, and lets not even get into what measures software makers and hard drive manufacturers take to minimize the frequency and even the impact on the end user (lost data) Now that we are informed, we can now assume that logical and probable errors could have corrupted a very small piece of your registry, but dont worry, its only software that needs reinstalling or repair. My advice, is to reinstall, or repair your windows installation (repair registry) and you will need an operating disc of either windows or Linux operating system to get back up and running to your normal pace. (edit) If your bro, is really smart, he will get a hold of a USB memory stick, install Any operating system on that, and boot from that so he will still maintain his teenage privacy and not interfere with any one else s potential productivity.
