Is downloading music illegal?

Is torrenting stuff / downloading music/programs illegal?

  • I know a lot of people that torrent movies, files, programs, music, using limewire/UTorrent/BearShare, etc, and I'm just wondering if all that is legal. And if not, how come none of these people ever get caught?

    Attempting to download something for free that isn't free is stealing. It's the same as walking into a store and shoplifting the same item. People get away with it because it's hard to track every abuser out there. However, the government is going after the pirating and P2P sites and shutting down those they can.

they dont get caught because if the police tracked every one thats ever stole music, every one in america would be in jail.
