Which Windows OS should I choose?

How do I put Debian GNU/Linux on my windows 7 computer where I can choose witch OS i want to use? thank you!?

  • Answer:

It looks like you want a dual boot system: When the computer is booted you get a menu where you can select which OS to run. If you want to switch to the other OS you have to reboot. You need some free unpartitioned space on your hard drive; at least 30 GB. If you hard drive is fully formatted you will have to "shrink" your windows partition to make space for debian. THen you will have to create 2 partitions for linux (some people use more than 2, but 2 is minimum), one called swap (about 2 Xs the size of your ram) and the rest for the OS which is called root or /. The first link give some good info on how to setup a dual boot. You best bet is to read the debian manuals for the install and how to run it. You never know what might go wrong while shrinking a partition or during the install so be sure you have good backups or a clone image of windows. Good luck

Wubi, or install to a seperate partition and install grub as the bootloader.

if you are talking about dual booting than you usually have to put one OS in another. say Windows 7 as a base OS then install Ubuntu/ linux inside or just go to the bios and select boot from cd or usb and then install that OS in a different partition on the drive
