How to make typographies in Photoshop CS5?

  • Can someone please help me with this? I just installed Photoshop CS5 Extended in my computer, and I have no idea how to use it. I'm clueless. I would like to make a typography, like the ones seen on Tumblr. (please check any Tumblr site if you don't know what it looks like) PLEASE HELP ME, I'm in serious need of help. :( Thanks in advance!!

  • Answer:

You mean you want to create something with lettering that looks like the heading on Tumblr? Or, you want to design a whole new font?? Can't help with the second in a short answer - but on the first: Create a new image the size you want . . .make a new layer, select all, fill the layer with a colour that matches the background you want. Create another new layer for your text and write your text, in white, on that, in a font that matches the one you want (look for a freeware font that looks right on www.dafont.com if you don't have something already - look under the heading of "Basic - Serif"). Add a drop shadow from the layer effects box. Save it, as what ever sort of image type you need for your project. But if these instructions don't make sense . . . if you're not even familar with layers, or layer effects etc . . . go get an introductory photoshop book from the library - (for what you want to do, anything written for CS3 or CS4 will still be relevant), and work through the introductory chapters. Good luck!
