Where To Download Eclipse?

Java programmers - how do i download Eclipse?

  • I know its not the best but I need it for university. I really need a step by step guide as I've tried going onto the site and downloading it and when I tried to run it afterwards, it wouldn't work - help?! http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ its the second one that I need (i think)

  • Answer:

Eclipse can be downloaded from the site you have mentioned. You may download the "Eclipse IDE for Java Developers" i.e. the first one. The second one is the IDE mainly used for Enterprise application development which I don't think you need for the university. Select any mirror after clicking on the download link for the IDE. And it will download a zip file. You may place this zip at any location and unzip that... No need for any installation. I mean you can directly run the IDE from the unzipped folder. Of course, you need JVM and JRE to be installed in you system before running the Eclipse IDE. I can't think of any other issue right now. Are you getting any error message when you run Eclipse? If so, let me know the exact error message. May be then only I can be able to help you. Hope this helps!!! Regards SAM

What happened when you tried to run it? If you got a message about problems with the Java runtime then it's because you also have to install the Java Software Development Kit (JDK - well, you need the Java Runtime Environment - JRE to run Eclipse but you need the JDK to write Java code). If you haven't got a Java runtime installed, and you need the JRE, then go to: https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=jdk-6u23-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Developer and download it for your platform.

Quote from the same page: "Hint: You will need a Java runtime environment (JRE) to use Eclipse (Java 5 JRE recommended). All downloads are provided under the terms and conditions of the Eclipse Foundation Software User Agreement unless otherwise specified." Well, being able to read helps. Also, download the first one, you are no company. Go here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html and download and install the JDK- that way you should be able to run it.
