How do you create animations?

I just purchased adobe creative suite 3 (It was cheaper than CS4). And I want to learn how to create drawings that I can animate. Do I first draw it out in Illustrator and then import it into an animation program like Flash or After Effects? Or do I create the drawings withing the animation program?

Answer:
I would suggest you make your drawings directly in flash, it creates a vector image so you wont have to worry about it going blurred, start by just messing around with the brush tool and make some frame by frame animations, pressing F6 to create a new frame and CTRL + ENTER to run the animation.
