Does ODBC allow read only access?
-
my boss wants to allow clients to use ODBC access to our SQL database to allow them to create reports. I am arguing that this may have security risks, is there anyway to limit risk and allow read only access?

Answer:
I'm not that much of an ODBC expert, but wouldn't an alternative be to use GRANT within the DBMS to set up a user profile with only SELECT authority and then just use that profile to connect to the database?
