Gimp background help???

  • how do i put a saved picture as abckground for another picture on gimp. i know it is something with layers but i forgot how to do it. detailed ansswers appreciated, 10 easy points thx xx

  • Answer:

I'm using Gimp 2.4.6. If you're using a different version, it'll be similar... 1) File => Open to open your background image 2) Press ctrl-a to select-all 3) Press ctrl-c to copy the selection 4) In the picture you want to add the background to, press ctrl-v to paste 5) Click Layer => New Layer 6) The selection you pasted will be promoted to a new layer. 7) In the layers window (re-open with ctrl-L), you'll probably want to drag your new layer below your foreground layer. 8) If you want your background to show through, you'll need to use the eraser tool to paint transparency on the foreground layer. Or, you can select a different blending type or change the opacity of the foreground layer.
