How do you create vector animations in Adobe After Effects?

I've been in video editing for a while. I use Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere Pro. After Effects caught my eye when a friend of mine showed me his work. I liked what he did but he doesn't want to teach it to me. I was hoping to find someone who can teach me how to do these kinds of animations in After Effects.
