How to start learning Java?

Java programmers there!!How did you start learning java?

  • I'm newbie in java and currently been watching thenewboston tutorial in youtube. Yes, I know already the syntax but the problem is I don't know where to start to program on my own code so that my knowledge will be absorb . To all professional java programmers there, how did you start learning? Please can you give me a hint? I can't afford books and find reading much hard to understand so I want video tutorials on java as possible. thanks ^.^

  • Answer:

Being a programmer requires that you be able to read and absorb technical material. You won't get very far before you need to do something like that read documentation, for example. Can you write even a very simple program without help? For example, something like printing your name to the console? If you cannot, that is a sign that you learned nothing from the tutorials you watched. Go back and start from the first one. After watching one, fire up Netbeans (or whatever your tool of choice is) and try practicing what you just learned, puzzling over any mistakes you make and working them out. Neither watching nor reading alone will teach you how to program. You only learn by actually programming. In addition to several books, I learned Java using this online resource: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/ Good luck!
