Need help. dvd-r and burning?

I need help burning a DVD on my Mac?

  • I need help burning a dvd on my mac. Burning these things used to be really easy, but now every time I hit the "burn" icon a pop-up comes up on the screen and says "TV Standard Conflict: It seems you are burning a PAL movie on a NTSC disc. Proceed with burning?" What does that even mean? It never showed up on my computer, which was purchased in 2006, before. And now I need to burn a slide show I made for my friend's Sweet Sixteen. Please help! Is there such thing as a "PAL" blank DVD disc that I need?

  • Answer:

The US uses NTSC, Europe uses PAL (Video format). There is a setting you need to adjust to set your computer to NTSC (if your in us) or PAL (If your in europe) and this message will not show up again. I dont remember where it is. Google it.

These are the old scan formats for pre-ATSC television. The National Television System Committee system was used in North America and the western third of South America, Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea, Myanmar, and some smaller island countries. To play a movie file through a TV set, the scan format of the file must match that of the TV. There is no such thing as a scan format for DVD. What is the application that you are using to create the slide show? Use the Help guide of that application to see how to export a movie as NTSC format. From the iMovie Help: To export a movie in NTSC or PAL format: 1. Choose File > Share and click QuickTime. 2. Choose Expert Settings from the compression pop-up menu and click Share. 3. Type a name for your movie and choose where you want to save it. 4. Choose "Movie to QuickTime Movie" from the Export pop-up menu and click Options. 5. In the Video pane, click Settings to open the Compression Settings window. 6. Choose a format from the pop-up menu (DV-PAL or DVCPRO-PAL for Europe, DV-NTSC or DVCPRO-NTSC for North America and Japan). 7. Drag the Quality slider to the desired quality. Best is recommended. 8. Type a value in the "Frames per second" field (25 for PAL and 29.97 for NTSC), and then click OK. 9. Click Size to open the Export Size Settings window, and then click "Use custom size." 10. Type a value in the Width field (720 for both PAL and NTSC) and in the Height field (576 for PAL and 480 for NTSC), and click OK. 11. Click Settings in the Sound pane. Leave Compressor set at None. 12. Choose 48.000 from the kHz pop-up menu in the Sound Settings window. 13. Select "16 bit" and "Stereo," and then click OK. 14. Click OK in the Movie Settings window. 15. Click Save. Apple's iDVD will overcome this problem automatically, but it requires a compatible DVD burner (either internal or external).
