How much should I charge for ads on my website??

I want to build a helpful website for everybody free of charge?

  • I want to build a website that can be very helpful to most people and is free of charge. The website would basically contain free medical advices from a certified MD and surgeon for any one who has questions (answers are given within 8 hours or in extreme circumstances 24 hours). Not only that, the website also will contain free writing essays service at least for the first two weeks. Since writing essays is time consuming, it can't stay forever free but the service will be 90 % cheaper than any other website. Any kind of essays ranging from science research papers to philosophy papers can be written by a professional writer. I will also provide a service on any graduate school information and their exams such as medical school, MCAT, pharmacy school, PCAT...etc. I realize that not everybody can afford to go to doctors for questions that can be solved online and I also realize that not every student can always get the help they need to write essays. Since we don't want to encourage laziness and make students stop working, we will require that students provide an outline or an essay written out to the best of their ability and from there, we can always correct it and write it in a professional matter. And there are a lot more services that I can't list all in here. The website will depend mainly on donations and Ads from sponsors but I want to ask all of you if you think this can be successful. Will I be able to collect enough donations to run the website and pay the people who run the website with me? Do you have any other ideas or tips that you can give me? P.S I'm a senior in college majoring in biochemistry, have a 4.0 GPA, and applying to pharmacy school. The second member is a professional writer with a masters in English. The third member is a certified MD and surgeon who is willing to just help.

    The virtual doctor thing cannot be done... yet, the technology doesn't exist for it to be practical. The essay writing thing could be a good area though, although if i was you i would make it a public service, in other words people submit it and it can be reviewed by the entire community of the website. The essay authors will then submit how successful the essay was (rating) and based on the result all those that made changes and helped edit will receive an appropriate rank up. In this way people will know if they're being helped by an expert or a total novice and can pay attention to suggestions or disregard them.

You are making a multi-purpose website: that is a major failure of many. A website should be centered to ONE niche/object. The more you offer, the more it becomes confusing and less attractive. You should make two or three sites. The idea of free doctor consultation is not the best either: "Self diagnosis" is a very dangerous attitude. You cannot replace a proper consultation with a real doctor (not a "virtual" one). Are you going to tell someone to make a tracheotomy or apendicectomy through the net? Will you correctly diagnose the possibility of a tumor through the net, the difference between a simple cold and an attack of asian flu??? Thesis writing for students is also detrimental to the abilities of the student himself. When I presented the draft of my thesis, my tutor told me: "Your content is excellent. Now, re-write it "in English" ". It took me a year to do so. You would be helping students to gain "false skills". What will they do, once they leave Uni? Come back to you to re-write their articles? Living from donations? Maybe you will get enough to maintain your server... $50/year. No, I do not want to discourage you, but I do not think it is a very good idea. However, if it could be "patronised" by a school or University, then, with the appeal of the School Logo and the support of its directors, MAYBE...
