In the open with how do you determine what extention opens a file?

cant open file windows needs to know what file created it then it gives you a list to choose from the problem is I have no idea what file opens a particular extention when i just pick one at random it doesnt ever work WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS IN ANY FILE, OR ANY FILE THAT WONT OPEN .HOW DO YOU DETERMINE WHAT EXTENTION IS USED TO OPEN A FILE

Right click on it, and go to properties. Check its extension and you will come to know what software you need to open the file.

Often if you know what the file is suppose to be then you know what to open it with. if you don't then just google the Extension. If it doesn't have an Extension, and is just a "FILE" then you can not be helped unless you know what the file was originally intended for.
