Help with Vampirefreaks?

I plan on making my own social networking site; Can anyone help me?

  • I'm not very experienced with databases and servers, but I'm experienced with computers and I learn quickly; can someone first give me a basic outline of what I'll need to do and learn? I've planned to make this something like vampirefreaks.com, but more cyber-culture oriented, and less lenient on preachers and trolls; Therefore more friendly to those who want to be there. I'm sure you'll all agree, Vampirefreaks has slowly rotted; It happens to communities. Because it's been around for a long time, and became very popular, it's slowly fell. I plan on refreshing the community with my own new site; Which will hopefully have a longer life with new features and new rules [though not too many rules]. I'm on a fairly low budget, but flexible, and I don't plan on making a career out of this; It's gonna be free, and I'll either have a donate button, premium features [I'm not too keen on premium features though; it's unfair on people who can't pay], or I'll advertise things on this site that will make me money [such as things I'm selling, games I'm making, etc]. Obviously I plan on this being long-lived. What I'm looking for is pretty much anyone who can help, but if you want to be specific I'd really appreciate help with; Layout/theme creation, scripting/programming, graphics, advertising [later on], and whatever else I'm gonna need which I don't know yet. Though even if you're just a random surfer on the net who happens to have found this & is interested, all help is welcome; even just ideas.

    Look no further than Buddy Press. For future reference you will want to learn PHP and MySQL to create your own stuff.

Hi there Toxin, There's no need to worry too much about starting this project from scratch - thankfully this wheel has already been invented and rather well too! The guys who brought you the blogging platform wordpress have another product called Buddypress. You can add plugin functionality to your application as well as all sorts of theme's (most for free!). I'd strongly recommend looking into this sort of deal before going ahead with what you have planned. Good luck!
