I have a domain name and a host. How do I get my website online?
-
I have a website. It is stored on the free space my college gives me. It is http://files.nyu.edu/njm272/public. I registered the domain greenhaus.us so that it can be shown there. I can't figure out how to get my website online. Please help me! Thanks.

Answer:
Now, you using the site space is sharing from NYU.edu folder name is /files and your page at URL njm272/public. You have 2 ways can do; 1. login your domain account and go to domain management, forward your domain to your site URL 2. Create your own site with the other software without sharing with someone http://www.coffeecup.com/designer/ Set your domain point to your site /Folder and upload your file to your hosting then go publish your site.http://www.securepaynet.net/Hosting/Legacy.aspx?ci=1783&prog_id=LovelyApple

you need to: 1. look at the email you got from your hosting place and print it out and file it!, and get the nameservers off of it. 2. set the nameservers in the domain control panel to the nameservers listed on the page I just talked about. use names, not numbers if you can - numbers change. 3. logout of domain control panel and wait 20 minutes or however long they say for changes to propagate. 4. login to hosting control panel (see sheet for URL and login) 5. choose parked domains 6. add your domain for parking. 7. wait specified amount of time for changes to propagate. 8. check your http://greenhaus.us first, then check http://www.greenhaus.us - if the www doesn't work, you need to add a redirection on the hosting side from the subdomain www to your /public_html/ directory or whereever your html files are located in the server. if you have any issues after a week, start talking to tech support on both sides. should really only take minutes. you can also forward your domain, but the end result is that you will end up with that long url in the user's browser.

In a normal setup, such nested host address is not valid to use, but usually today's domain account can do the forwarding; hopefully the account registrar of greenhaus.us can do such arbitrary setup without having to mess with the backend of files.nyu.edu otherwise you are cooked and require a real hosting solution at the side.

To the domain management, forwarding to your domain to http://files.nyu.edu/njm272/public , or let your colleagues config in the host
