Computer Programmer Analyst or Electrical Engineer?
-
Hey all, for the past 4-5 months I've been leaning back and forth, stressing over what to persue in college/university. My ideal goal was to be in Computer Programming, then to become a computer programmer analyst or computer tech. I was recently given information that alot of computer programming jobs will be given overseas for 1-2$/hr and the economy is going to die. That's when I started looking into Electrical Engineering, but I didn't prepare for it in highschool so I'm going to need to take college and transfer I believe. I have a huge interest in computers, I love working with them, love being around them etc. But I can't figure out what to do in college/university. My question to you guys is, should I just suck it up and take and go for my BENG and hope I enjoy it, or look into computers more?

Answer:
Get a BS in EE and take some COSC classes too. This way you can do either EE work or COSC, e.g., programming, analyst, etc. It's far more difficult to go the other way, EE work, if you don't have an EE degree.

Follow what you really desire. Computer industry in the US might be in downstream, but if you are really good in your field then you would be successful, right? Then there might be a field that has computer and engineering in just one course.
There will always be jobs available in software development for qualified individuals. I feel you would regret pursuing a career that you have no vested interest in. Even if electrical engineering jobs are outsourced less does not mean there is an overabundance of them when compared to programming jobs. Both fields are challenging and rewarding (I'm a software guy myself, but I have friends who graduated in EE). If you prefer computers choose computers.
you love computers so do that... money will seem like a perk when you're going to work every day & happy with your job. Just live within ur means once u get a job if you think you're not getting paid enough.
