Will be there demand of computer science degree like after 15 years?

Is a Computer Science degree possible in 3 years?

  • I am a freshman in college and like most people in general, I have no idea what I want as a future career. My two "passions" are music and video games, but I don't want to make music into a career. I am good at math and so called "critical thinking." I also have a basic understanding of computers and other electronic systems and how they work, but not nearly enough to carry on a long conversation about it. I'm taking an introductory course next semester, and if I like it I will most likely change my major, but I am just wondering if it's possible to learn enough in 3 or 4 years starting from scratch to be competitive in a computer science, or computer related job market.

hi kyle, four years that should be long enough for you to have a good understanding of computers and you are very fortunate to be able to go. but there is a lot to computers like programing art and or my favorite computer science. so let's discuss the difference programing is what goes into a computer where as the art is like icons or television shows cartoons but now computer science you must learn a new language called java script it is a big part of computer science. allow me to give you a idea of what it is let's say we are building condminiums three bedroom, two bath but then a guy comes up and said he has three kids and one on the way so he needs four bedrooms two bath so you drawing the blue prints and getting lisenced to build then my crew comes in to build it. but now when we get paid that is always boss so you configure, than java plans then building than configure java then comes boss. good luck hope i was helpful to you

I'm a junior in college studying computer programming and information systems. I was always good with computers, but had never done any serious work with computers until I started studying them in school. It is definitely possible to have a competitive skill set with 3 or 4 years in a computer related degree program. I'm amazed at how much I've learned over the past year. One thing I will make clear is that no school will prepare you completely. You will have to use what they teach you as a starting point and do a lot of self-teaching and studying outside of classwork and homework. I spend almost all of my free time reading and practicing programming.

OK, you have two questions here. The last one is easiest, yes you can learn enough in college to be competitive. At my alma mater, CS is the best-paying major for people getting just a Bachelor's degree. Regarding the other question, MAYBE, it depends on a number of factors. You'd have to sit down and map EVERY class you need to take, double or triple up as many as you can in parallel, and get your breadth done. Summer school would help. But if you can't get into a particular class at a particular time or semester, that could delay things. Look at the critical path and map out what requires what as a prereq. Good luck!
