How To Become An Experienced Web Designer?

If I wanted to become a web designer, how would be the best way to approach it?

I want to become a web designer/coder and I am just wandering how would be the best way to get a job into it. I like to keep my current job but is there a way I can free lance web design, thanks

First learn HTML and CSS, from there you can learn any other web dev language such as PHP, ASP, Javascript, etc... go to: www.w3schools.com for some great tutorials to get you started, once you want more advanced stuff, i recommend going to amazon and reading user reviews on books, this is what I do. First learn how then decide whether you want a career in the field. The usual path is if you are starting from home not school: HTML -> css -> javascript -> html, javascript and css -> graphics -> flash -> backend programming (PHP, ASP) -> database (MySQL, MsSQL) Only after that start freelancing. If you are looking for a job in the field pick one of these and become the best at it.
