How do I make a textbox transparent?

How to make a custom textbox from a graphic in indesign?

  • I'm currently making a menu in indesign and I'm bringing a graphic i made in illustrator and placing it into indesign to start placing in the text that i need. However I need an easier way to create a sort of smaller version or offset path of the graphic i just placed and turn that into my textframe without actually making the shape via pen tool etc. My question is how do i do this?

  • Answer:

You can either drag the path directly from Illustrator across to InDesign (both apps with respective files open placed next to each other, release mouse when you see a black border around your InDesign document), or by selecting the path in Illustrator, copying it to the clipboard and pasting in InDesign. Either way you'll end up with an 'Unassigned' frame that you can alter to a Text frame (Object>Content), then you can place your type inside the shape.
