How do you pause a program until a button is pressed in JAVA?

Help with Java GUI....will pick best answer?

I am not a very experienced programmer at all so excuse me if i accidentally use the wrong terms or seem like i dont know what im talking about...i need to program a visual form of connect four and we are jsut starting to use GUI...with the basic JFrame JLabel JButtone etc... I dont even know how to start this program or what format to use....i was thinking maybe having a button on top of each column that when you click you place your piece in that column but i am not sure how i would do this, how i would get the background of the connect four board, and how to show a red or black piece after the interaction of the button being pressed....if you could help me with a format or on any advice at all about this it would be greatly appreciateed and i will choose a best answer to boost your yahoo points...thankskkks
