How is the job market for Web Developers?

Is the market of web developers saturated, or is there still room for starters?

  • I want to start up my own business specializing in web development. But as this is something that can be started quite easily (although there is a lot of knowledge required) I wondered whether that market is already saturated? Does anyone have a view on this? Sharing your thoughts is highly appreciated.

Hey, by saying "start up my own business" do you mean a new company or a freelancer business? If you want to start up a new company, then there is enough place for you, as it may be a pretty common domain but to get your business noticed is everything that matters! There are a lot of no-name companies out there, but many of them never made it to the top and they will probably remain unknown! If you want to start developing as a freelancer then there are also enough places for starters. I myself am a Webdesigner and work as a freelancer. There are a lot of people asking for diffrent things especially for the Web! I hope this helped, good luck!

join the throngs of unemployed programmers starting a home based business scraping about $200 a month out of side jobs. Unless you are really good, and really dedicated to get out and make sales to small local companies the outlook is not good. Dedicating time to sales is important, make sure you have a portfolio of work or examples you can show off, and they really need to be top notch. Even with that there are no guarantees. I keep my job to pay bills, and weekend and evening of web stuff is for mad money. I don't expect much more. Business you have to make sure you bring in enough to cover what you might earn working for someone else x about 3, to cover insurance, benefits and taxes.

If you have the the development knowledge, you'd most likely make more money doing contract work for others than trying to run your own web business.
