What is a mixtape and how do I make one?

Can someone explain to me how I can make an album cover similar to the one like this?

IDK how to get all 3 pictures to fade and blend into each other.   that's pretty much impossible to create on Powerpoint (unless you're a magician). You'd be better off doing it in Photoshop but you would have to be fairly skilled in it.
