Where to learn web design ?

  • Im a student in my last year at high school, and when i leave i want to go into web & graphic design. I'm already experienced in Adobe Photoshop CS4, & i have made DIV & basic HTML MySpace layouts by myself before, but that's about it. Im looking for a free website(s) to learn the baby steps of web design and coding, and then i'd like to move on to the more advanced aspects of web design (preferably on the same website) Anybody got any ideas ? Best Answer will be chosen.

Myspace doesn't count, because it doesn't follow conventional, widely accepted Web standards. I'm in the same boat as you, and I'm a senior. W3schools.com can teach you HTML, PHP, CSS, all of it. You can even learn it all, then get tested so you have the certifications. Certifications are going to be important for people like you and me after we graduate and go into the workforce, because they prove competency in computer stuff like the SAT does for math and english. I hear that employers look at your certifications almost more than they do your diploma.

I started with trial and error in 1996. I got the very first edition of Adobe GoLive and figured it out as I went along. Talent will out everyone, my friend. Just google tutorials and you will find thousands upon thousands of them. As a working graphic artist, if an ad rep requests something that I don't know how to do, I just google the effect and follow the instructions. It has never failed me.
