How can I create a private website?

  • I am currently creating a website, for me and my partner, it is built on a variety of platforms using Flash, Silverlight, HTML, Javascript.. however seeing as it's for me and my partner I want it to be for our eyes only. I originally created a simplistic login like, username x password y in two boxes, if the boxes are correct then it'll load the site. However I don't feel that is anywhere near secure enough. Is there any hosting site, where I can host my site in private. Maybe the person has to create an account like Piczo? And then I have to allow them accesses into my site? Does Piczo do that? Any alternatives. Just want a site that only one person can get access to. How? please.

You can add a server level login to password protect the entire site using .htaccess Your web hosting control panel should have an icon/area for password protection. You simply select the directory to protect, and all files/subdirectories underneath will not be accessible without the login. I assume your just new to web development, so i suggest you have a look at a cms system like umbraco (if your using silver light you will have to use a .net CMS as moonlight is not quite ready for linux and mono/php) A CMS will help you create your website and allow you to have a secure area and public area (if you want one) Umbraco is completely free, and simple enough to set up.
