What is activeX for please?

ActiveX is a set of technologies from Microsoft that enables interactive content for the World Wide Web. Before ActiveX, Web content was static,2-dimensional text and graphics. With ActiveX, Web sites come alive using multimedia effects,interactive objects, and sophisticated applications that create a user experience comparable to that of high-quality CD-ROM titles. ActiveX provides the glue that ties together a wide assortment of technology building blocks to enable these "active" Web sites.

A few Windows applications use it to encapsulate their components (make them independent). This is needed and shouldn't be deleted.

ActiveX is not a language; it is in fact a system that allows software to interact independent of the language used. It is designed to allow the reuse of software. ActiveX was not designed for the internet. ActiveX controls can be used in a web page but as others have indicated, the ActiveX technology is dependent on Windows. ActiveX is usually used in Windows desktop applications, not web sites. You need to be more specific than "could not delete activeX". ActiveX is part of Windows and is a requirement for Windows. So it is nit clear what it is that you could not delete.

It's a Microsoft proprietary web scripting language that is needed for some company in-house websites. It is also, as I recall, required in XP for doing updates. It only works on Microsoft systems in IE so basically locks-in a website to Windows-only. It's pretty much been dropped in favour of standard/open JavaScript and Java on the public Web. It has also been plagued by security issues in the past, as it offers a way for a website to run programs on your PC unconstrained by any sandbox.

I think you need active x to run things such as games and videos bla bla bla. it says i need to install it but it wont let me do that or update it for some reason lol.
