I was really confused when I first started using Twitter as well, so don't worry - you're not alone!! You use the '@' symbol to tag people in posts or pictures. For example, you could say, "@sarahbeth and I are at the mall! So fun!" Posting this tweet will not only show up on all of YOUR followers' "newsfeeds," but it will also tag your friends' name, SarahBeth, and it will show up on her wall too. Does that make sense? The '#' is difficult to describe. Basically, you put a hashtag before anything you want, and if you click on it after you post your tweet, it will how you who else has hashtagged that same phrase. Basically, it's a way to group your tweets with other people's tweets. It's sort of just a habit thing people do that looks cool I guess. For example, you could say something like, "Got a bad hangover from that New Years Eve party last night... #badidea #soworthit" and that will group both of those hashtags into groups that other people have said. Also, if enough people use the same hashtag around the same time, it can become a Trending Topic. you will see the trending topics on the side of your screen, and they change all the time based on what people hashtag. Also, when you hashtag something, you have to make it into all one word so, even if your hashtag includes several words, it's all tagged into one conglomeration. For example, a trending topic on Twitter last night was "#2011in3words" and people would put that hashtag and then describe 2011 in three words. I hope that information helps you! Good luck!!

What makes Twitter different from the other social networks is the way you can commensurate on twitter in an instant. Rather than Facebook which is a wall type social media, Twitter messages can be passed on to blogs and many other websites online in an instant. So saying the right thing at the right time can bring many followers to you. Rather than just passing on Links to websites that have no value to your Followers. Be very careful what you share on Twitter also since it is social media and can be seen all over the internet. It's no good telling someone you don't know your personal details and expect them to fall in love with you if it's a boy or girl you are following for the first time. Make sure all your current tweets also in line with what people are talking about, Have fun on twitter a lot of my own friends use proverbs, Funny one liner sitcom jokes or some small knock -knock jokes to pass the time away.
