Do I need a blackberry phone to use a Blackberry playbook?

If i purchase a BlackBerry off Ebay can I use the phone without a data plan on AT&T?

• I'm looking to purchase a BlackBerry Curve phone and use the phone without the data plan. AT&T requires you to purchase a 15$/mo. minimum data plan with all BlackBerry phones and i was wondering how I can work around this requirement without any major amount of money being spent. To purchase a BlackBerry without any commitment from AT&T costs $500. I'm on a college campus with tight funds and wi-fi in all buildings. I currently use an LG Shine on the AT&T network. If i were to purchase a BlackBerry on Ebay could I somehow place my current SIM card or retrieve a new SIM card for the BlackBerry Curve without AT&T assigning a data package to the phone? If this wouldn't work, does anyone know of a way to use a BlackBerry Curve on an AT&T network without the data plan commitment?

  yes you can, but you have to go into the settings of the blackberry and turn off the data so you wont get charged for internet use, it connects by its self
