PSP Battery/Charger problem?

My psp will only turn on if the AC adaptar is connected **and without the battery inside the psp** So basically i take out the battery connect the ac adaptar turn on the psp and put the battery back in let it charge and then I can disconnect the psp from the ac adaptar and play.. but if i leave the battery inside the psp and have the ac adaptar connected and try to turn it on the screen comes up blank and I can't even get to the boot up menu and no the brightness has nothing to do with it

It sounds like a problem with your battery, possibly short circuiting. It may be worth contacting Sony to ask advice, but I suspect the upshot is that you'll need a new battery.
