Can blackberry 8830 world wide edition surf internet and facebook?

• hi, i am currently using iphone and iphone plan with unlimited data plan. and i am going into the army so i need to change into a non camera phone. i am looking for a cheap non camera phone that i can use to surf the internet, and play facebook. i found this phone blackberry 8830, but i am not sure whether it is a good choice, please help me. can this phone surf internet, can i play facebook with this phone? and what about the data charges? is it the same as i am surfing net on iphone? what about the speed? what are the advantages and disadvantages? i have never use blackberry, so i am not sure about it. please advise me! you help is greatly appreciated.

  You can't use the 8830 in Singapore. Your cellular carriers use GSM service and that device is a CDMA phone. You will have to look at the 8800 or the 8820, which are GSM phones. That model has no wi-fi and is only capable of 2G (EDGE) data speeds, so, no, the data experience won't be the same...it will be markedly slower. You can access the web with the phone (I'm assuming it has some browser available), but it's a three-year-old phone and will certainly be a step down. If you can find one cheap, it might be good to use while you're away, and when you come back, you can just swap your SIM back to the iPhone and carry on that way.
