Why doesn't iTunes recognize my iPhone?

ITunes will not recognize iPhone 4, help?

I can't sync to itunes because it doesn't recognize the phone... but my computer itself does--I mean, Windows is like, "Hey, you wanna put some pictures on this device or something? How about checking out the files? No? Ok." (not literally lol) I installed the latest version of iTunes, through the 'repair' option, might I add. I just got my phone and went a little crazy with the apps... but now my dad is making me nervous by saying I NEED to back it up with iTunes, though I really CAN'T. Plus, I really would love to get some music on it lol Any ideas? Please and thank you!
Answer:

Different USB port. That will fix it most times. iTunes is weird like that. If that doesn't work, restart the computer. Nice question. It was entertaining.

Uninstall and install iTunes..reboot the PC and then try again
