Free Texting Apps on iPod Touch?

There are some "Free Texting Apps" i found on the internet that can go on iPod touch/iPhone I don't know how you can even text on a iPod touch becuz its not even an iPhone. and wtf? for free? thats cool. Do these apps work? Are they really free? & is it safe?

Yes u can text on it. Cool. I know. But it gives u a random number with a different area code and I don't know if its safe to use. Sorry. But yeah u have to have wi fi to send the messages.
