Blackberry Curve 8900 on Vodafone always on GSM so can not access internet or get email.?

Got contract on Saturday - did the whole setup wizard but I cant get on to Vodafone Live or the browser or retrieve email. It always says GSM - so i can send/receive texts/ calls but no data. In the manual it says it has to say GPRS or EDGE to be able to use the data services, but it won't change from GSM, no matter where I go, People with different phones can access the internet while standing next to me. Any advice appreciated.

standard phone uses gsm network. GPRS and EDGE are additional services that you need added to your phone and may cost extra. Check with vodafone to check that you mobile account is setup to use the GPRS or EDGE networks
