Why, when I connect it, does my PC say my PSP is not connected?

I am trying to add music to my PSP, I do have a Memory Stick (TM) inserted, but it's saying that "There is no Memory Stick (TM) inserted. I went to USB mode, and nothing. Won't lemme put my music on! D: Please help me. :(

well you kinda need a memory stick. when you get one put it in and go all the way to the left and press x when usb mode (or something like that) is highlighted the plug up your PSP. hope this helps p.s. Merry Christmas
