How can i type more than 160 characters on my blackberry curve 8530?

When typing an SMS message on my BlackBerry Curve 8530, I can only type 160 characters. Why is this limited? On the BlackBerry Curve 8520, you can type more than that and it continues into a second page. How can I fix this problem?

Answer:
Since each text can't have more than 160 characters, most phones don't let you type more than that (instead of breaking up what you type into 160 character chunks).
