Firstly I'd like to warn you that I think your iPod is in need of repair so if your looking for some kind of quick fix/magic tip this is not the answer your looking for. I just want to offer some tips if you decide to get it repaired through apple's site! I had a similar issue arise in my iPod recently where it completely stopped responding to a plug in so if your iPod is not responding at all, meaning the display won't light up or anything, then your iPod just needs to be sent in for general repair. This is easy if you bought your iPod in the last year because then it is still covered by the warranty! Be warned though, if you think the damage to your iPod is the result of liquid contact then it is not covered by Apple's warranty and sending it in under that pretense will just be a waste of time because they will send it back without being repaired! If on the other hand your display is responding then it may just be your port that is damaged and that is one of the things you can check in the apple repair assistant!
1. Try another USB cord or USB cable. 2. Restrart your computer for a try. 3. Reset or restore your iPod for a try, this way can fix many general iPod problems. If you don't know how to do that, you may refer to this iPod tips http://www.mac-dvd.com/ipod-tips-and-ipod-faq.html 4. Update your iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod. 5. You may try this iPod transfer, it's a nice iTunes alternative that can help you upload music and video to iPod, I always use it to sync my iPod when my iTunes can't recognize my iPod, it's easy to use and works pretty well http://www.ipod-transfer-copy.com/ipod-transfer-mediawidget.html If you have any other questions, feel free to email me.
It could be the cord that you are using because that was the reason my laptop couldn't detect it and it wouldn't charge either. If you used the same cord to plug in the pc and on the wall charger then it most likely the cord because that was the reason for my iPod.
