Is prank calling illegal?

  • I prank called a business and they said that they were going to fine me for $500. This is the first time i have prank called them and afterwards i called again and said sorry. Will I really get fined or in trouble? I'm only 14 so i wouldnt count as an adult i dont think.

I hope you used *67 to call anonymously. Otherwise yes, they may track you down and fine you. However, if you called them back then I'm sure they'd rather occupy themselves with something else other than tracking down a bored 14 year old. One time my friends prank called the operator and they said they'd send the cops over, but nothing happened. Prank calling is illegal, though, in some states. I think you can get arrested for it in Utah.

They cannot fine you. They would have to press charges of harassment against you and a judge would have to fine you if you were found guilty. One phone call is hardly harassment. You just got some stupid receptionist trying to get you to stop calling.

They probably just said that to deter you from doing it again, they most likely will not take any action against a 14 year old.

You can if the one you are harassing wants to make a big deal out of it...they were probably satisfied with your apology but don't do that again...

I don't think it's illegal. Prank callings like calling someone abd chatting rubbish. Nothing illegal about that
