Can you cancel the unlimited data plan for the iPhone, and still get to use it?

Okay, I'm trying to get an iPhone from AT&T, but I'm wondering since it needs a 2-year contract etc, can you cancel the data plan and still get to call people? And that would mean no more internet, i know. I'm curious though. thanks!

I googled the similar question a few days ago. in attempting to look the solution I found a way to obtain the iOS4 for free from www.iphone4zone.tk. the phone is arriving any days now and I love it. Enjoy the new iphone
Nope, the data plan is required. AT&T won't let you cancel it. There is no way to get around this. Honestly, I don't think there's any point to the iPhone without a data plan anyway...
no -.- it freican sucks i called at&t and talked about it to them and they said any smartphone you have to have the data plan with it to work it.
