Why won't my phone send text messages?

Why cant my phone send text messages ?

Whenever I send a text message , it takes forever to send , it keeps saying that its sending , when its not . Sometimes people get my text messages the day after i send them , I called the support people for Virgin Mobile , and they said to delete all my messages , but that is what my phone also fails to do , It'll say that it is deleting messages , and then it'll vibrate , and then go back to my main screen . Then when i check my messages , nothing got deleted , help would be very appreciated .

same thing happened with my optimus v....call in and complain your butt off..threaten to switch service providers yada yada and keep calling back...eventually they will give you free stuff (i got a $5 credit added to my account and 50 free min)
