I just want to use it as a mp3 player

Answer:
To correct Jared, the iPhone is NOT cheaper than an iPod touch. With an iPhone comes a 2 year commitment and the $30 a month on your AT&T service. But to go along with what everyone else says, yes you can. It'll just operate like an iPod touch, and of course it will be unable to make phone calls and text messages. Wifi still works, so you still have access to the internet, you just have to be within a wifi signal.
