When is the iPhone coming to Verizon?

Is the iphone coming to Verizon Wireless?

  • I've heard that the iPHONE is coming to Verizon Wireless, is that true? if so, when? and is the iphone that great? pros and cons? thanks!

  • Answer:

The announcement was unofficial in the Wall Street Journal a few weeks ago but Apple has yet to acknowledge it. In my opinion there is a good reason why Apple went with AT&T when choosing a carrier for the iPhone. It's because the AT&T network is more suitable for data than Verizon. Verizon's network is great for voice. It'll will use any tower it can get ahold of which is why it gets better coverage. The problem comes when Verizon starts grabbing non-3G towers with the iPhone. That'll be fine when you are talking, but you wont be able to use the data services (internet, email, apps, etc) until it can get a 3G tower. I anticipate a whole mess of problems when the iPhone is released for Verizon. When customers call up and complain about why they can't get on the internet, Verizon's answer will be simple. "It's the network."

to KOMIKAZE (or what ever that dumb poop is) no, you must be bjoking (not a typo) me... Thats exactly the OPPOSITE!! AT&T's network does that, but VZW's tries to get the FASTEST signal, over the stronges... rofl. Anyway, I have used the VZW iphone as my Brother is the VP of VZW data comm. So, it has a 4G radio (no 4g serv yet. no network) but it has a 1ghz A4 processor (rly fast) OLED screen, 4 inches.. but the device is the same size as 3GS. as titanium back(so the entire device is an antenna). its awesome.

It's still just a rumor and that rumor said it would not be this year.

There have been rumors about this ever since the iPhone came out. The latest rumor came from the Wall Street Journal, where some company in Asia said they would be building Verizon iPhones later this year. But neither Apple nor Verizon has confirmed this. If this does happen, you would need to get a version of the iPhone made specifically for Verizon's network - an existing iPhone made for AT&T would not work. That's because AT&T uses the GSM standard for communications, but Verizon uses CDMA. As far as how well the phone would work, it would work fine - Verizon already has a network capable of supporting 3G smartphones like the Droid, Palm, Blackberry, etc, and they (like AT&T) are in the process of upgrading to get ready for 4G.

Yes, the iPhone is coming to Verizon, Sprint and other carriers soon. There aren't any specifics on when as of yet, nor what model iPhone they will be using. They will need to release a different model in order for it to operate on CDMA networks like Sprint, Verizon, U.S. Cellular etc. because AT&T uses GSM tech. A Verizon iPhone might have problems with one function: talking while using the web. Verizon's high-speed network, enabling web and other apps, is actually larger and has more coverage than AT&T, but as of yet, Verizon's speeds and infrastructure aren't setup for talking and web. Sprint has recently launched 4G phones and network in some major cities, so their iPhone might be faster, but who knows? We'll have to wait and see! Oh, and as a matter of fact, Apple offered Verizon the iPhone first and they turned it down because they didn't want Apple to be able to sell the phone and Apps without going through them. Guess, they're ready to admit it was a mistake. http://forums.cnet.com/5208-10152_102-0.html?threadID=230941
