Answer:
This is just MY experience. I have a new iPod nano, 4th gen. Now i know it's not an iPhone, but I think all iTechnologies have the same principles. I had my iPod snyced with music from an old computer before it crashed. I got a new one out of...Weird circumstances I guess you coudl say, and redownloaded iTunes. Now, being a different iTunes, I couldn't sync my iPod. Even though I had all the music files reupload and photos on my new comp, it was from a different library and to be able to sync it again, you have to delete what is already on there. As far as I know, and what iTunes store manuals have said, there is no way to be able to have to libraries on an iPod, iPhone, or any iTechnogies. I hope I helped you. And sorry for wasting your time if I didn't or someone already answered. - Jade Rider

i think it is ok if you wanna use your iPod as a hard drive without running the relevant iTunes . It is safe for your iPod as long as turning off iTunes or its auto sync. if you are using the iPod on more than one computer, then set the iPod to "manually manage songs and playlists"(edit->preferenc->device->disa… the auto sync for all iPod and iPhone)and this will keep it from automatically synchronzing with iTunes and erasing all of the songs on the iPod. And if you wanna use your iPod in different computer and also wanna import something you like but exist in the other iTunes on another computer ,the third party pragram would be pretty useful to make it. Use sort of transferring program to make an iPod content transferred to the another iTunes and then sync it to the another iTunes. Then you can get other content from another iTunes on another computer at the same time maintain your own content still on your iPod.

I always have this problem when I clean my computer out. The important thing is saving your music files onto a flashdrive, so that you can put those files onto your itunes. Try plugging in your iPod, and I think there'll be a little window that pops out. But plugging it could transfer your music onto iTunes.

iPhone can only sync with one computer itunes or the current iphone songs will be erased. itunes blocks this function since itunes is the tool with one way to transfer files from itune to iphone. you must utilize other tools to achieve that. There're couple of tools for transferring the files between iphone and computer (for backup)depends on your demands, e.g transfer only songs/videos, transfer photos etc. You can have a look of below review site, hope it useful.
