Will Apple Store engrave my iPod?

I bought an ipod off craiglist, now it broke, can I bring it to an Apple store?

  • I bought a used ipod Classic off craigslist a year ago. I dropped it and now it has a crack on the screen. I want to bring it to the Apple store to fix however I just now realize that I don't know whether the ipod is stolen or not. If it was stolen, and the owner reported it to the Apple store, do you think the Apple people would know or trace it out via the serie number on my ipod? Do I get in trouble in case it is a stolen one? cause I have no idea where is the person who sold me the ipod at. Can a person report a stolen ipod to Apple store? OR, the owner reported to the police and the Apple people call the police on me? Above are all the possibilities I can think of. I do my own research and according to people on yahoo, a series number do no help at all or others say they lost their ipod and Apple says there's nothing they can help. Nevertherless, I still need opinions. I don't care about the warranty, I just want it fixed and I will pay for it. I don't want to buy a new one because I download more than 2700 songs, video clips and movies on it and I have no back up. Yes, Im kinda stupid like that. I never register my ipod either. I don't buy stuff from itune because I have own program to convert the files. I bought stuff (mattress, bed, futon, table sets, textbooks, clothes, etc ...) from C.L all the time and never think of this problem until now. I met the people who sell those stuff and they were all seem so nice. Who would know? I need answer. I really need real advices please. Not the sarcasm kinds of advice.

  • Answer:

If you are not trying to cash in on the (probably expired) warranty, and just trying to get it fixed, I wouldn't take it to Apple. They will charge you top dollar for something that could be done by almost any other independent electronics dealer. I accidentally broke the touch screen on my iPhone 3GS, and using a $20 kit from Amazon, I fixed it over the weekend. It's as good as new. They probably have similar kits for the iPod Classic, and YouTube instructional videos to go along, so if you feel up to fixing it yourself, that's great. If not, that's ok, you can just take it to a store and they will fix it for you. Hope this helps! Sorry your screen cracked. :(
