How can i update iPod touch to 3.0?

How do i update my ipod touch to 3.1.2 update?

okay so my friend told me to jailbreak his ipod touch 1g. so i restored his ipod and then it updated to 2.2.1 update like any other ipod that hasnt paid for the 3.0 update. so while i was trying to jailbreak it i decided not to (because i feared i might **** it up) so i put the ipod in DFU mode and i restored it but this time it says it will update to the 3.1.2 update wtf!!! and now i want to restore MY ipod so it can update to the 3.1.2 update but what if i restore it and it will update to 2.2.1 should i keep trying again and again until it lets me update to 3.1.2 for free

u dont have to waste ur time with doing that just search the 3.1.2 update and do a restore-update by pressing shift then restore.
