Ipod headphones with remote issue?
-
I have a 32GB iPod touch 3G It's only 6 months old. First replaced headphones 3 months ago due to same issue. I'm about to send in my second iPod headphones with remote in for replacement due to the right side "with the remote" dimming in sound, unbalancing the sound distribution between the right and the left. Background: I've worked with tech all my life and I would say i take better care of my equipment than most, usually what I have, I keep looking new. I do use my headphones all the time but I don't blare my music to unreasonable levels and in fact, I keep it at a level where no one around me can hear it. ( never exceeding 50%) So I don't think it has anything to do with playing music too loud. I honestly can't think of anything causing this issue aside actual use, but I think iPod headphones were made to be extensively used other wise, why would people buy them in the first place being as expensive as they are compared to others if they break all the time. More notes: I also have a pair of Sony headphones ($8 @ target) that work just as well, if not better quality sound. The only reason I don't use them is that it doesn't have the remote built in. The problem specifically lies with my iPod headphones with remote. Not my iPod touch, hence this never occurring with any other headphones I own. Also I have really good hearing, thats not an issue... Does anyone know why this has happened to me twice? And might it occur again with further replacements? OR can anyone point me in the right direction for finding a solution. This has only occurred to my ipod remote headphones not any other brand i own. Ideas toward a solution are welcomed, BUT please take into consideration the factors I have listed before answering.

Answer:
I happen to own a pair of these (remote and mic) and have never had this happen. But, the fact that you got a SECOND pair that doesn't work leads me to believe that your iPod's headphones jack is faulty. I understand that the Sony headphones work but the reason probably lies with in the Jack. The iPod earbuds with remote and mic have several more "rings" across the male jack (the one at the end of the headphones). So, if your iPod has dirt in it or one of the rings on the iPod doesn't conduct electricity right, this could lead to your problems. Since the Sony headphones only have 3 (iPod w/ mic and remote have 4) rings, there isn't a problem. But if that 4th ring gets blocked, it might screw it up.
